Precision Nutrition is an emerging area of health and wellness that is rapidly growing in importance. As part of the “All of Us” research program, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is investing $170 million in precision nutrition research to:
- Examine the interactions between diet, genes, proteins, microbiome, metabolism, and other factors
- Use artificial intelligence (AI) to develop algorithms to predict individual responses to foods and dietary patterns
- Validate algorithms for clinical application
Hear from leading experts on the topic from NIH, academia, and industry, such as:
Holly Nicastro, Ph.D., MPH
Coordinator for Nutrition for Precision Health
All of Us Research Program
Holly Nicastro, Ph.D., MPH Coordinator for Nutrition for Precision Health, powered by the All of Us Research Program. In this role, she is responsible for the overall management of the Nutrition for Precision Health consortium, progress toward the program’s goals, and monitoring of interactions between the consortium and the external community.
Diana M. Thomas Ph.D.
Professor and Research Chair of Mathematics
U.S. Military Academy at West Point
Diana M. Thomas Ph.D. holds joint research appointments at the Columbia University New York Obesity Research Center and the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. She has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles in exercise, fitness, nutrition, and body weight regulation relying on diverse mathematical methods ranging from differential equations to machine learning. She co-leads the AIMINGS (Artificial Intelligence, Modeling, and Informatics for Nutrition Guidance and Systems) Center which serves as the AI Center for the NIH Nutrition for Precision Health (NPH) Consortium.
José M. Ordovás, Ph.D.
Senior Scientist and Leader of the Nutrition and Genomics Team
Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University
José M. Ordovás, Ph.D. is Senior Scientist and Leader of the Nutrition and Genomics Team at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University. His research focuses on the genetic factors that predispose individuals to heart disease and obesity as well as the interaction of these genetic factors with the environment and behavioral factors. In particular, Dr. Ordovás examines the impact of diet on genetic factors. Dr. Ordovás is considered one of the founders of nutrigenomics.
Floyd "Ski" Chilton, Ph.D.
Director, Precision Wellness Initiative
University of Arizona
Floyd "Ski" Chilton, Ph.D. is Director of the Precision Wellness Initiative at the University of Arizona. His work examines how genetic and epigenetic variations interact with human diets (especially the modern Western diet) to drive inflammation and inflammatory disorders (including cardiovascular disease and cancer), as well as psychiatric/developmental disorders (ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and depression).
Nate Matusheski, Ph.D.
Chief Science Officer
Hologram Sciences
Nate brings the Science to Hologram. He oversees the identification of high-quality diagnostics, the development of nutritional products, and algorithms to drive success. A veteran industry scientist with a Ph.D. in human nutrition, Nate has authored numerous research publications and holds several international patents. He brings rigor and deep passion for translating 2-dimensional science into 3-dimensional holistic programs that help people find health and wellness.
