Bioactive Innovations for Healthy Aging to Take Center Stage at CRN ‘Science in Session’

AUGUST 27, 2024

Scientific symposium to be presented alongside WellComms as part of CONVERGENCE ‘24

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association for the dietary supplement and functional food industry, will present its anticipated scientific symposium, “Science in Session” Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City, as part of its annual CONVERGENCE.

Themed, “Living Well Longer: Bioactive Innovations for Healthy Aging,” this year’s “Science in Session” event will present explorations of emerging research focusing on bioactives and longevity, with notable scientists on topics including hallmarks of aging, cognitive function, bone health, inflammation and obesity, and more.

The 2024 Science in Session agenda includes:

  • Hallmarks of aging: Novel opportunities for nutritional targets with Christiaan Leeuwenburgh, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Physiology and Aging, University of Florida.
  • Connecting nutrient biomarkers, cognitive function, and brain health with Aron Barbey, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Psychology, Director, Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior, and the Decision Neuroscience Laboratory, University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
  • Effects of bioactives on molecular pathways in inflammation: Implications for obesity and liver health with Ji-Young Lee, Ph.D., FAHA, FACN, Professor and Head, Department of Nutritional Sciences, University of Connecticut.
  • Probiotic modulation of gut microbiota and bone health with Laura R. McCabe, Ph.D., MSU Foundation Professor, Department of Physiology, Michigan State University.
  • Bioactives for estrogen-deficient skin in menopause with Edwin Lephart, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, Department of Cell Biology and Physiology, Brigham Young University.
  • The anti-aging power of bioactives: A clinician’s perspective with Cheryl Burdette, N.D., Director of Education, Progressive Medical Center, Co-Founder, Dunwoody Labs.

“The science supporting bioactive ingredients for healthy aging continues to build, revealing exciting potential to enhance wellness across the lifespan,” said CRN SVP Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Andrea Wong, Ph.D. “This year’s selection of speakers for Science in Session will present research on bioactives that can drive innovations in nutrition to help more people live well longer.”

Science in Session is presented alongside WellComms, CRN’s event for marketing and communications professionals in the wellness space, starting the morning of Oct. 9, followed by the first ever CRN Innovation Exchange, featuring six 25-minute presentations on innovative ingredients, research, manufacturing, and other solutions.

The main CONVERGENCE conference kicks off the evening of Oct. 9 with a reception, following by programming on Oct. 10 and 11, including a keynote address from U.S. Food & Drug Administration Deputy Commissioner for Human Foods Jim Jones, a deep dive into the future of AI in the dietary supplement industry, and more.

“Our CRN team is looking forward to welcoming both members and non-members to CONVERGENCE ’24 in Salt Lake City as we explore new science and technological advances, celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act,  and discuss the issues that will move the dietary supplement and functional food industry forward, inspired by thought-provoking speakers and the energy of coming together during such an important time,” said CRN President & CEO Steve Mister.
