Washington, D.C., November 24, 2014—The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association for the dietary supplement and functional food industry, today announced the next in its series of free webinars for pharmacists and nurse practitioners (NPs), presented in partnership with Skipta, the premier closed-loop social networking platform for health care professionals. These webinars, available to members of the Pharmacist Society and Generation NP communities, are part of CRN’s ongoing efforts to reach health care professionals with science-based information about dietary supplements that they can use in their practices.
The upcoming one-hour webinar, “Practical Practice Tips for Widely-Used Dietary Supplements,” will take place Tuesday, Dec. 9, at noon Eastern and will feature CRN’s science team. As a naturopathic doctor who sees patients part-time in a clinical practice, CRN’s senior vice president, scientific and regulatory affairs, Duffy MacKay, N.D., has scientific knowledge as well as hands-on experience in integrative wellness, addressing similar questions that pharmacists and nurse practitioners might receive when working with their customers and patients who have an interest in integrating supplements into their wellness regimens. CRN’s Jim Griffiths, Ph.D., vice president, scientific and international affairs, and Andrea Wong, Ph.D., vice president, scientific and regulatory affairs, will add to the discussion of “need-to-know” facts about 10 dietary supplement categories that pharmacists and nurse practitioners are sure to encounter in their work.
“More than 150 million Americans take dietary supplements each year,” Dr. MacKay noted, “making it likely that pharmacists and nurse practitioners are working with clients that are taking supplements. The CRN/Skipta webinar is a great opportunity for practitioners to expand their knowledge in an hour’s time to better inform their customers and patients.”
A question and answer segment will follow CRN’s presentation.
“CRN is appreciative of its relationship with Skipta and the dialogue with health care professionals that it provides us,” said Judy Blatman, senior vice president, communications, CRN. “Our joint webinars have grown in popularity with Pharmacist Society and Generation NP participants, who demonstrate high levels of engagement, ask valuable questions and, we hope, come away with an enhanced perspective on dietary supplements and their benefits to people’s wellness.”
The webinar will also be available on demand following the live event. For more information, see: www.crnusa.org/skipta.
