Washington, D.C., April 23, 2015—A preliminary agenda is now available online for the Third Annual Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance Forum on Dietary Supplements in New York City on June 24 and 25. The conference, presented by the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association for the dietary supplement and functional food industry, and the American Conference Institute (ACI), a leading think tank known for producing substantive conferences for all major industry sectors, is co-chaired by CRN President & CEO Steve Mister and Scott Bass, partner at the law firm Sidley & Austin LLP.
On Wednesday, June 24, day one of the main conference, sessions will kick off with a look at dietary supplements and the state of the union—how new political and administrative developments are shaping dietary supplement policy. The next session will examine the New York Attorney General’s investigation and tackle questions of regulatory authority and scientific testing.
Other sessions include: explorations of the role third party contractors play in good manufacturing practices (GMPs) and quality requirements; developing a blueprint for clinical studies; intellectual property protections, and more. In addition, a review of two high-profile FTC cases will drive a discussion of controversies surrounding new claims substantiation standards for supplements and how this impacts advertising, promotion and labeling.
Day two, Thursday, June 25, a half-day of sessions before an afternoon workshop, kicks off with an analysis of FDA rulemaking and other agency activity impacting the dietary supplement industry. Another hot topic, the term “natural” and the treatment of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in supplements follows. The main conference is slated to close with a session that promises to offer invaluable legal insights on novel theories and sound defense strategies against consumer class actions and Prop 65 litigation impacting dietary supplements.
A pre-conference workshop takes place on June 23 and a post-conference master class is on the afternoon of June 25, open to attendees as add-ons.
